BLITZ PARTY
... premiere : February 3rd & 4th 2006, Espace Gérard Philipe, Fontenay-sous-Bois …

BLITZ PARTY

…a 'checkmate' show combining electro and video …

© Eric Vernhes

Eric Vernhes's images (Vjing, computer) and Hubert Dupont's musical improvisation (bass, effects, boomerang sampler) respond to the suggestions of 64 sound and visual samples:

The action is led by the movements of the chessmen as two people play a game of chess on stage, activating the samples and fixed or moving images through a clever combination of clicks on the chessboard squares...

The way in which these micro-compositions will reveal themselves, overlap, provoke improvisation, is not completely due to chance: chess is another kind of very social game, based on observation and initiative… where improvisation often determines turning points...

This show is a development of an art installation: the original idea belongs to the plastic artist Christophe Robin.

Biography

Eric Vernhes

After studying Architecture and Cinema, Eric Vernhes worked on film production with Anatole Dauman (Argos films). This gave him the opportunity to create his first fiction and documentary projects (among others 'Amateur theatre' ('Le théâtre amateur'), selected in the French Film Theater's programme 'One hundred years of short-film').
Winner of the Michel d'Ornano prize at the Deauville Film Festival for the screenplay of the feature film 'The big project' ('Le grand projet'), he set up his own production workshop and started to test different types of writing and producing for film and television.
His research into new kinds of artistic expression, more intuitive and less 'studied' than in conventional audiovisual works, led him to experimental video: he conceived computer processes to condense into a single operation the image editing, treatment and broadcasting phases.
For over a year, this research took the form of monthly performances at La Maroquinerie (Paris) with the musician Serge Adam. Out of this experience in sound/image interaction, the "4.1" Collective was born, bringing together with Eric Verhnes the musicians Serge Adam, Benoît Delbecq, Gilles Coronado and Marc Chalosse.
His develops this experience through live performances and installations where images and sounds are diverted from their respective fields of application (cinema, music) in order to explore new narrative possibilities.
He collaborates from time to time with rock artists such as Rodolphe Burger, and participates in theater projects (Irène Jacob, Jérome Kircher, Jean-Michel Ribes, Thierry Poquet…)
